How to Get a Salon-Quality Blow Dry at Home During Self Isolation

HOW TO GET A SALON QUALITY BLOW DRY AT HOME DURING SELF ISOLATION

Most guests in every salon leave with beautiful voluminous or sleek glossy hair that they just love,  but it’s something that can  be difficult to recreate at home no matter how hard you try. So despite the fact that you blow-dry your own hair regularly, but you don't quite get the salon results then  the  chances are you’re probably not doing it properly and that’s why most guests end up with a frizzy finish nearly every single time.

This week the PELLO HAIRDRESSING TEAM have all given us individual tips from home and we have put them together for you to create the perfect at home self isolation blow dry. So here are the teams most common blow -drying mistakes that we all make at home.

PREPARATION IS KEY.Before you start make sure that your hair is cleansed properly, if you don’t shampoo properly and cleanse the scalp, grease and product build up will still be in your hair and the volume just won’t hold.So start with 2 good shampoos making sure not to rub your hair too much, apply conditioner from mid lengths to end. Use a wide tooth comb, combing your hair from ends to roots .

Mistake #1: You’re sections are to wide

Start off by sectioning your hair properly. This is really important as it will keep the rest of your hair out of the way while you work your way through individual section. The stylists from Pello Hairdressing team recommend drying hair in approximately one to two inch sections to effectively prevent frizz. “Your section of hair should not be falling off the edges of the brush. If it is, your section is too broad,” says the team“Also, make sure the section is not too thick.Make sure each section  is 100% dry before moving onto the next section, but don’t over dry. If your hair is even slightly damp, it will frizz and won’t hold the style.”

Mistake #2: You’re not using the correct Brush

Using the correct brushes is  really important as this  will ultimately determine the finished look of your style and how easy it will be for you to achieve it. If you want curl or volume, the team would recommend using a small or medium round brush as “These types of brushes dry hair in the shape of the brush,” . "Because hair has memory, building in as much volume and wave as you can form into the hair as it dries will really help your body and style last.” For smooth and straight styles with less curl and more volume, use a paddle brush and a  larger round brush to smooth the ends .To stop your hair from falling flat and achieve that big, bouncy blow-dry you need to create height at the crown. Do this by keeping the brush as close to the roots as possible and following it with the hairdryer, pull the hair upwards. Make sure you use small sections and thoroughly dry every section from the roots to the ends.

Mistake #3: You’re Holding Your Dryer Incorrectly

Yes,there definitely is a way to hold the blow dryer properly. You would think that holding a dryer and pointing it at your hair would be adequate to get the job done, but there’s actually a method behind positioning your dryer correctly. “You want the dryer pretty  close to the hair, but not actually touching it. If the dryer repeatedly touches the hair, it can cause damage over time,”

Mistake #4: Your Hair is Too Wet

Don’t start  your blow-dry on soaking wet hair. “If your hair is soaking wet, it will take twice as long to blow-dry,” and you want to reduce the amount of heat exposure .We recommend taking out about 30 percent of the moisture by  gently tousling hair with the dryer and fingers. But if you have very curly hair, don’t take out too much moisture as it might be too hard to blow dry your natural wave.”

Mistake #5: You’re Using The Wrong Products and not using heat protectant

Along with choosing the right brush, using products that suit  your hair type and desired style is essential in giving your hair the best blow dry possible. It’s so important to keep your hair protected from all that heat, so a styling protection spray is a must. You’ll notice that some sort of heat-protector is applied to your hair prior to every salon blow-dry  here at Pello - so make sure you do it at home too. By using the wrong product in your hair you can weigh it down or make it frizzy, and if you’re using  oils and serums don’t apply them on your scalp only from the mid length and work them through to the ends. For fine or straight hair, we  recommend choosing a mousse or thickening tonic and/or spraying a  volumizing tonic on the roots to boost volume and texture before turning on your dryer. On textured or curly hair we would recommend a styling  cream to smooth strands without weighing down the curl .Finish off your blow dry with an all over spritz of fishing gloss and a light spritz of hairspray.
